Fashion Fest 2010 - RFL

I was going to do some sort of fashion post. And I still am. But with a little more substance. Starting July 2 and ending July 11, Fashion Fest 2010 will be hitting the runway in SL. This is a Relay for Life event benefitting the American Cancer Society.

Yes, I know that RFL seems to have gone on forever. And I've heard the complaint that people are "benefitted" out. I was feeling the same way. This year, I have the honor and privilege of Chairing Live Music for Fashion Fest. My responsibilities consist of booking the musicians and finding hosts to help.

I would say 95% of the musicians and managers I spoke to were more than willing to help out. The hosts are mostly from the amazing friends I have. There were some who responded enthusiastically and others that did not respond at all.

This experience so far has been one of complete amazement at the love and support and generosity of heart by so many people, and of shock and disappointment at the indifference of some others. Many of these people who are helping at this event are cancer patients, cancer survivors, caregivers, and those like myself who have lost someone they love to this terrible disease.

I don't like coming from a place of fear. The truth is:
Approximately 1500 people die each day in the United States due to cancer. About 3,400 people are diagnosed with cancer each day in the U.S. (American Cancer Society)
I'd like to give a shout out to the following people have donated their time and energy to RFL - American Cancer Society in SL.

New Truth Hair 6/25/10

I'm so late with this. Went out of town for a few days (in-laws) and they had crappy internets. So here is new Truth hair. Blame the in-laws for my lateness. I do! ;) All styles are in Champagne.

Rayne - Rocker Chick

Love this hair. I'm not a rocker chick but I feel like one when I wear it.  Love the fringe pieces and layering.and the way it moves. Just a touch of edginess without being too over the top. I'm fairly conservative when it comes to hair, but I get bored easily. This hair is perfect for Joonie. Don't you think?

Iris - 2 Version (with and without leather/beads)

There are 21 bead combinations available, including one without beads but still having the leather tie. The other Version is without an adornments. I love this braid. A bit shorter than we've seen in the past. I bit more casual. I paired it with some jean shorts, a tank, and some sandals. I'm soooo cute!  ;)

Lucille - retro
The name says it all. Although it could be called Betty. It has a very retro feel to it. Not one of my faves, but I know there are LOTS of Lucilles running around out there who will LOVE this look. And it has all the perfection of what we have come to love and  expect from Truth hair.

Okay, that's it for this week's dose of Truth. Until next time! Go find your Truth!

We Now Return to Our Regularly Scheduled Blogcast

What to say? Not much left to say I don't think. It's all been said.
If you walk away, I'll walk away

First tell me which road you will take

I don't want to risk our paths crossing someday

So you walk that way, I'll walk this way....

Naked Barbies Ejected from SL7B

Something very disturbing is going on and it isn't even about the image below. This image just opened a can of worms that refuses to go back in. Here's the story:

Misprint Thursday, a well-known RL and SL artist, was ejected today from SL7B because her exhibit was deemed unfit. The image is below.

The image is part of an exhibit Misprint created to thank the people who have been a part of her SL collaborations. Misprint added the Barbie images in a show of support for a fellow artist whose work was rejected the previous day from the PG sim after being pre-screened and pre-approved. She chose the Barbie image as a way to ask the question "is this not PG?"

SHAWN Masters, a Moderator for SL7B, approached Misprint and asked her what the textures were about. There was an exchange between SHAWN and Misprint where she stated that the Barbie images were PG and not offensive, to which Mr. Masters replied, "not to the normal mind." The conversation continued with Mr. Masters stating that in SL,

SHAWN Masters: you do have pedifiles
Misprint Thursday: that has nothing to do with these pictures

Misprint defends her art as being PG and states she would like to take it up with Linden Labs. At the point, Mr. Masters points out that "there is one to my right." Misprint speaks to Blondin Linden for several minutes with no response. At this point, Mr. Masters re-enters the conversation by asking

SHAWN Masters: Misprint...do you have children
Misprint Thursday: Shawn-you are out of line
Misprint Thursday: asking me that
Misprint Thursday: that is not your business
Misprint Thursday: and has nothing to do with this
SHAWN Masters: there are on average....20 pedifiles within a 50 mile square
Misprint Thursday: listen
SHAWN Masters: SL is a breeding ground
Misprint Thursday: that has nothing to do with this

Misprint then asks Blondin Linden if he agrees that SL is a breeding ground for pedophiles. Blondin never answered the question. Misprint was then asked again to remove the images which she refused to do, standing by her assertion that the images were PG. Her explanation was met only with "good day mam" from Mr. Masters.

Misprint told Blondin Linden she was cancelling her premium account in protest of the process Linden Labs uses to determine what is PG and non-PG content. Misprint is asked by Blondin Linden to remove the images or be ejected from the sim. Misprint politely refuses and is subsequently ejected from the sim. Her Barbie texture was returned to her.

She was also ejected from the SL7B builders group and no longer has access to the rest of her art installation. Basically, parts of her idea are still standing and she is unable to access them.

This is wrong on so many levels. It's not about the naked Barbies, although that is ridiculous. Children play with Barbies every day. There are millions made off of the manufacture and sales of Barbie clothes. Those clothes don't just miraculously appear on the Barbies, they have to be placed on them somehow. Do you really think that Mom, or god forbid, Dad comes in and changes the clothes for them while the child hides their eyes? But I digress.

What it's really about is the absurdity of SHAWN saying that SL is a "breeding ground for pedophiles" and Blondin Linden not contradicting him, therefore, backing up his claim. The icing on this messed up cake is that a Linden would eject a passionate, creative member of the SL Art community over a naked Barbie and cutting her off from her own work. I can't imagine having my art compromised by anyone, not to mention being isolated from it, knowing that it is being used by the same people who altered it and denied my access to it.

Look out for naked Barbies. If you see one, call Mr. Masters right away! Pedophiles are sure to be nearby!

Hiding

This armoire is made by Jordan Giant. I love her. And as soon as the sim is back up where this armoire is sold, I am going to buy it. Until then, I will just hide in the one at her skybox.

BBBC 2010 - Topic 6 (What Did It All Mean?)

What did you get out of your experience? Do you think it will change the way you blog in the future?

I got the sense of community out of the experience. 95 blogs participating compared to the 25 the first year. Amazing. And awesome. It's great to be a part of such smart, creative people all sharing our perspective on Second Life.

Will I change my blog in the future? Probably not. My blog is like Joonie. You never know what you're going to get. But..there are some fantastic blogs out there. Reading them I sometimes thought..."oooh that's cool. Wish I'd done that." But the cool thing about blogging is we get to make it our own. yay!!

Thank you so much, Ali, for doing this.....getting us all together and coming up with the topics. And thanks to everyone who participated and making this the best BBBC yet. Here's to next year!

thanks for reading =)

BBBC 2010 Topic 5 (Bloggers Choice)

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. I hope that's true.

New Truth Hair! 6/17/10

Well sure it is. See? The beautiful conventional "make me feel pretty" Truth hair...with a few surprises today.

First is Bethany in Swedish

Gorgeous, feminine style we've come to expect and love from Truth

This is Carli in Champagne

Love this style and the gorgeously textured leather buckled handband (look at all those adjectives!) I could add more, but I won't. Oh wait..also riveted. No pretty bows this time. No satiny shiny finishes. This is leather baby, and spiked rivets! Oh my!

I love this smexy style. It's going to be my go-to hair for a while, I can already tell. These textures are so real I can almost feel the leather as I glide my fingers ever so gently over...oh..oops. I mean look how REAL they look! And that buckle...oh jesus god. It comes in 20 luscious colors.
*fans self*

But this is nothing.....wait til you see....

Tilly in Seaspray

I know I give my narrative. Maybe that's not needed. Just plop the photos and leave. But when I see a designer take a risk and design something different than the norm, I have to gush. This hair, altho still "pretty" is not what we normally expect from Truth hair. THIS is kick your butt into the next galaxy hair. Current, a bit edgy, and beautifully done.

The closer I looked at this hair, the more impressed I was. No one does hair like this. There are some amazing hair designers on the grid. I could never begin to do what they do. When I look at this (below) I see....an incredible eye for detail, placement and design. I want to frame it and hang it on my wall.  hahaha

Okay, that's it from me on Truth hair. Hope you enjoyed. Now GO. BUY. STRUT!

Fashion Fest 2010 - Calling All Designers!

R

The All-Stars Relay For Life team would like to cordially invite you to participate in our 3rd Annual Fashion Expo, now called the Fashion Fest! Fashion Expo 2009 was an incredible success, raising over 1 million lindens for the American Cancer Society and bringing thousands of shoppers to some of SL's BEST Fashion Designers!

Fashion Fest 2010 will take place July 2nd - July 11th, 2010 and combines a mixture of different designers and talents into one area that will span 9 sims! Everything from clothing, to hair, to shoes, to skins, to shapes, to jewelry, to poses and more will be represented! If it's about FASHION, we'll have it.

This year's theme will be SL's Back to the Future! Each sim will be a different location and point in time and the teleport directories will be designed to look like time machines. Once inside the shops, the theme stops.. so the shop's interiors are all designer's fashions and selling your designs.

Fashion Expo 2010 promises to be bigger and better and full of surprises! If you are interested in showcasing your designs at the Fashion Fest, fill out the Fashion Fest 2010 Registration Form, return it to Nikki Mathieson and reserve your spot today. The spaces will fill up fast! We hope to see YOU there!

BBBC - Topic 4 (Age)

Is your avatar more or less your current biological age? Do you portray a younger avatar, or older? Why is this?

No, I would guess my avatar is in her twenties. So yes, I portray a younger avatar. Why? Well...is this what you want to see? Me either! LOL

BBBC 2010 - Topic 3 (Relationships)

Topic 3: How hard do you think it is to find a relationship in SL? If you have an SL relationship, have you met in the physical world? Would you meet them? Do you think it would change your SL relationship if you met?

This one is easy since the only question that applies to me is the first one. I don't think it's hard at all to find an SL relationship. LOL  Okay..next topic!

JJ

BBBC 2010 - Topic 2 (3 positive things)

Topic: Write about three positive things going on in your Second Life

1. Music
2. RFL
3. Friends

Well that's my list but when I go to write about them, I don't know. It doesn't ring true. So I'll just start writing and see what comes.

I would have to say that of the three, friendship is the one that has been playing the biggest role lately. To find out who your friends really are, nothing works better than needing them. People either step up or run away. Most of mine have stepped up. I have the most amazing friends. Writing this, a few come to mind and make me smile. All so different, all bring something special to my life. Some are old friends who I've lost touch with and have returned. Others are fairly new but have made a huge positive impact. I love my friends and I'm happy to say, they love me, too. There was a time when I didn't know that.

Music in SL is amazing. I love music anywhere and feel very lucky to be in the company of great musicians most of the time. Music has played a large part in my life. Certain songs remind me of certain times in my life. I can hear one of them and instantly be teleported (lol) back to that time and all the memories come flooding in. I'm a visual artist in RL (when I can log off long enough) but music has always been my first love. Sometimes music in SL starts feeling more like work and I miss the pure enjoyment of it. But if I work in SL at all (and I swore I never would!) at least I'm glad it's doing something I love.

RFL - well RFL I don't really know what to say. As some of you know, my mom died of skin cancer when i was 23. That impacted my life in a huge way. RFL in SL is amazing. And I'm proud to be a part of it and a member of the All-Stars team. I love Lo and Nikki for doing everything they do for RFL. I've met some awesome people because of it. So much work goes into it but everyone does it because they care. They've either lost someone to cancer or are a survivor or struggling with the disease currently. It is a reminder to me to live life to the fullest every day. I'm not always successful at that, but I know it's importance.

I guess those were my three positive things going on in SL.  =)

Thanks for reading =)

BBBC 2010 - Topic 1 (Blogging)

The first question on the Big Bad Blogger Challenge 2010 is
Why did you become a blogger? How has it enriched your life?

This is the kind of question that, when I first look at it I'm like, pfft..starting out easy. And then when I sit down to write the answer out, I'm all confused. LOL So many answers.

I started blogging in 2006, the same year I rezzed into Second Life. As a noob, I needed answers! LOL So I googled Second Life and Relationships, and that took me to several blogs. One which stood out. Her name was Sorcha and her blog was like a life jacket for me swimmng the treacherous waters of SL. I related to her feelings. I had never met her, but I felt like I knew her from the words she put down on her blog pages. I wasn't ready to jump into the world of blogging. I didn't think I had much to say. And then I read another blog that was listed on her blog roll. Bailey's blog was so insightful. Lots of emotion. Her blog took me to Kai's blog and on and on. But it was definitely Sorcha and Bailey's blogs that helped me on my way to blogdom. Thanks you two!

I blog because I needed an outlet for these emotions. Just reading Sorcha and Bailey's blogs helped me feel not so alone. But after a while, it wasn't enough to read their words, I needed to express my own. So I created a blog and began sharing all my thoughts and feelings about my experiences in SL.

That early blog has been relegated to the big blog heaven in the sky. But the love of blogging has not waned one bit. Blogging gives me a way to share, discover, and create. It gives me insight into my own crazy thoughts and feelings. I also hope, on some level, maybe it reaches other people who might be going through a similar situation or experiencing some of the same thoughts and feelings I had.

Also enriching is the feeling of being a part of a bigger community. My fellow bloggers are some of the most creative, fun, and intelligent people on the grid. I may not socialize with them as much as I could, but I consider myself lucky to be in the same circle...even if I hang mostly along the edges.

Thanks Ali, for organizing us! I can't wait to see what everyone blogs!

Black and Blue Fair

The Black and Blue Fair started some time ago, but today was the first day I was able to shop! UGH! My priorities need rearranging! The Fair is to bring awareness to Mental Heath. A message pops up when you TP in saying:  "Organized by Keira Seerose of CHIC Management. Please note that this event is NOT for charity. All funds go to the designers."

However, there are several places with notecards available on topics like Addiction and Dependency, Self Harm and Suicidal Thoughts, Eating Disorders, Gender Dysphoria, Bipolar Disorder (which I grabbed), and Bereavement/Grief. There are 800 numbers for Crisis Hotline in 6 countries (posted at the bottom of this post.) Also placed around are facts and figures relating to Suicide and Depression. But this place is NOT depressing. If you love Blue, you will love the items here. And they are amazingly inexpensive.

Blacklace (Diva)

Sinful Pleasure (Blanca) - Mehndi (Dance Floor (Red) Stomp Jeans

[KA] Exquisite Corpse - Kyoot Clingy Tunic Dress (Call the Cops)

[IF] Love Today Tshirt Dress (Blue)
I hope you can make it there and support what these people are doing. Knowledge is power and there's a lot of that at the Blue and Black Fair.  <~~ slurl to the fair.

Goodies with a Dash of Magic

I have a lot (I think) that I want to say. So let's get on with the Goodies. These are a few items from the Blue Dressing Room that I just had to have once I received the notecard. All of these items are under 100L.

First is Mimikri - Starlet Bikini

Baiastice - Maya Blue

Tee*fy - Chalk Dress in Summer

Doppelganger - Zuma Plaid (50L Friday item)

Several things happened tonight. Let's just say that lately my faith in myself and in other people has been somewhat messed with. I don't know why at my age I would still be shocked and hurt when I am...well...shocked and hurt. A friend in SL told me that when I love, I love HUGE. I give all of myself to it. He was a little concerned maybe although he said it was a good thing. In the last week, I have not felt like giving 100% is a good thing. I think it is a very dumb thing. So my faith in human kindness has been obliterated lately.

And then, right when I don't think I will ever believe again, when I'm moping around and putting on a happy face....a little angel appears out of no where. She didn't do anything huge or big. She was just kind and generous. I won't go into detail much, but I had never met her. I saw her at The Dressing Room and happened to like what she was wearing. I im'd her to tell her but she didn't respond. I realized that she was actually the creator of the dress.

I went to the store and discovered a beautiful place with wonderful clothes. There was a lily pad you could sit on and instantly I was floating all around in this most enchanting place. It made me happy. It made me smile again. And I had to have them. I im'd the creator and asked if they were for sell. They were not, but she immediately left whatever she was doing and  came to the store. She said she would sell them for 1L each. I wanted 5, and she gave me 6. I tried to pay her more but she wouldn't take it.

Love this dress. Group gift  =)

You know how when you're sad and someone does something nice and you almost lose it? Well, it was like that. =)

the creator

The creator is Tomo Wachter and the store is tomoto. She makes wonderful dresses and is a wonderful person. If you aren't familiar with her or her designs, please make time to stop by. You will be happy, like me. =)

and thank you to several people today and tonight who, either knowingly or not, made me smile and reminded me that I am loved.

Linden Lab Fires 30% of Staff - Memorial Erected | Second Life Update - Virtual World 3d

Linden Lab Fires 30% of Staff - Memorial Erected Second Life Update - Virtual World 3d

You can visit the Linden Memorial Here. While you're there, drop some lindens in the tip kiosk. Codie did this so those of us that wanted to could pay homage to those Lindens who worked to bring us our Second Life and played in instrumental part in advancing it. There are many who remain, but 30% are out of work and maybe feel like their contribution went unnoticed.

Much speculation is being raised around this layoff. I can't and won't speak to that. I know what my hopes are for the future of Second Life. Let's all hope there is one.

BBBC 2010 & Plurk

Yep, I succumbed to my own inner peer pressure! (Pisces w/ Gemini Moon - it's a special place) And I'm already jonesing for the next plurk. Gah!

But one of the things I really missed not being on Plurk were the newsy things, like Linden Labs (laying off people - oh my!) and about other bloggers, fashion, and soooo many things I'm not sure I need to know. But I was barely there 5 mins when I read a Plurk about the BBBC 2010 - aka - Big Bad Blogger Challenge. I did the first one and really enjoyed it. Missed the next one so def going to do this one.

You can read about it at Alicia Chenaux's blog (click on the title of this post above.) Just a reminder: this is not to register but for info. More info and how to become a part of this will be posted on Sunday, I believe.

Hope to see you there! The more people involved the more fun it will be.  =)

Til next time ...thanks for reading!

The One Where Joonie Posts New Truth Hair

No time to discuss...RL and all that. But here are the NEW TRUTH hairs released today.

First is Nicola in Champagne. I will say that while I was waiting for this to rez, I saw the braid first and was a little bit disappointed. But when the bangs began to rez, I was soooooooooo happy. Joonie has to have bangs or she looks like she has a receding hairline. This is absolutely gorgeous and is perfect for Summer. Nice. Relaxed. Hanging out at your beach cabana reading and sipping Mojitos.

*droolz*

Next is Peyton in Swedish. Love the pulled back on the side look, secured with those cut pins. Very pretty.

I saved the best for last. Joonie absolutely loves this style. It's called Boho and Joonie is kicking it in Champagne.  I have no words...lol...and that is amazing in itself. Okay...deep breaths. This is a beaded band with 21 color combinations for the beads! I'm wearing silver and gold here.

That's it for now. Here's Joonie loving herself thanks to Truth Hawks. =) Well, that's not the only reason, but he sure does help!

Go get them now!

Your limo awaits. Click below!
